How to Handshake: Plan

handshake logoHere at Concordia, the Career Center really likes to take steps to plan for the future – It’s important to have a goal and an idea of how to get there. The next section of the sidebar focuses on some tools to help you do just that.

The first button, Appointments, allows you to set up a meeting with either the professional staff or the Career Peers. Once you have clicked on it, you will be brought to a page listing both your upcoming and past appointments in the Career Center. There will also be an option to schedule a new appointment. If you chose to do so, you will be brought through a number of steps to set up your appointment. First off, you will select who you will be meeting with based on your major. You’ll also have the choice to meet with a Career Peer. Next, you will select which kind of appointment you would like to set up. You’ll then be brought to a calendar with available dates and times. Make sure that under the staff member drop down menu you select the person that you had chosen earlier. Finally, fill in the details by selecting the appointment medium and explaining exactly what you would like help with.

The next button under Plan is Journal. This page gives you the opportunity to keep track of your career journey. You’ll be brought to a page with all previous journal entries. You’ll also have the option of filling out a new one at the top of the page. You can either start typing or you can chose to use the advanced form with more editing options. This is a great place to note what you learned during an appointment at the Career Center, what your goals are for the year, what your thoughts are on job opportunities post-graduation, and so on. You can also tag these journal entries by using hashtags. Your journal entries are shared with the Career Center so that we can gain a better understanding of where the student body is heading and how we can better assist you.

The final button under this tab is Planning. This page contains career plans that the Concordia Career Center has set up for you to consider. The current one featured is the Four Year Plan. By selecting this plan you will be brought to a page with a number of items to complete that are synonymous with the plan. Once you have completed an item, you can mark it by clicking on the check mark. By choosing to show last year’s progress, a row of check marks will appear for each year at Concordia. This will allow you to keep track of where you are every year.

In order to take full advantage of all the services that the Career Center has to offer you, it’s important to lay out your goals and how you would like to get there. The Plan tab can help you do just that. Please stop by the Career Center between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM during the work week for more guidance on setting up your four year plan.
